Since 1964, it has provided the space to capture the most amazing and challenging views of nature through the means and expression of photography. In 2022 the 100 best images were selected from 39,000 of submissions and displayed in a special exhibition that can be seen around the world.
The exhibition in Basel was the only place in Switzerland to show the latest images, which were presented publicly for the first time at the Natural History Museum London in October 2022.
SNAP SHOT
For the fifth time, the Natural History Museum Basel has held its own photo competition. Amateur photographers were invited to send in their best nature or animal picture. There were tempting prizes to be won from the traditional photo house in Basel.
For the first time, a public prize was awarded for pictures from the cantons of Basel-Landschaft, Basel-Stadt, Aargau and Solothurn as part of Schnappschuss. The public's favourite was chosen in form of an online voting. The public prize "So schön ist unsere Region – gemeinsam für eine nachhaltige Natur und eine lebenswerte Zukunft (Our region is this beautiful - together for a sustainable nature and a future worth living) was made possible by the Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank, which was also the main sponsor of the exhibition.
Over 1,200 pictures were submitted, from which an independent jury of experts selected the ten best entries in each of three categories.
The jury's selection as well as the winners of the respective categories and the winner of the audience award were presented at the festive award ceremony.
