Wildlife Photographer of the Year
The Natural History Museum Basel exclusively presented 2017's best wildlife photographs of the year. Breath taking landscapes, surprising animal portraits and dramatic spectacles of nature allowed you to immerse yourself in the beauty and magic of nature. The jury's choice should be seen as an appeal to everyone to stop the advancement of the destruction of nature.
Wildlife Photographer of the year is the world's biggest and most prestigious competition for nature photography. Each year, the photographs set new standards against which animal and nature photography are measured.
From approximately 49'000 entries from 92 countries, six jury members have chosen 100 photographies and two winners. Each individual picture pays unique homage to the splendour, diversity and fragility of life on our planet. The competition was based on the concept of protecting nature and wildlife with the objective to experience nature, discover its beauty and raise awareness of its vulnerability.
SNAPSHOT
The SNAPSHOT photo competition was organised by the Natural History Museum Basel as part of the special exhibition 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year' in cooperation with Fotohaus Wolf Hämmerlin, Basel and was a great success: 1'169 photographs were submitted. From three categories, an independent jury awarded prizes to the ten best pictures. They were presented to the public at an awards ceremony and the podium places were announced.
