47 million years ago, the climate in Europe was tropically warm and humid. A lush rainforest provided a habitat for a variety of plants and animals. Primitive horses, anteaters, bats and monkeys have been preserved as fossils to this day.

The fossils from the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site 'Grube Messel' near Darmstadt, Germany, offered a unique insight into life at that time. The unique finds are so well preserved that even skin, hair and feathers are still visible today.

Over a hundred original fossils were on display in the exhibition. The exhibition gathered the most important selection of Messel fossils ever assembled for a special exhibition.
